How SafeSail works

One platform for everyday sailing safety, friends on a live map, and real club regattas — from entry forms to live standings and recorded tracks.

What the platform does

SafeSail connects a mobile app for sailors with a web platform for clubs and race days. Premium features are free at launch — no subscription paywall.

Mobile app

Navigation helpers, anchor alarm, emergency share, track history, Community AIS, and Regatta mode with live GPS.

Community map

Opt-in vessel sharing, plus crowdsourced hazards, buoys and depths. Wrong marks disappear after 3 reports.

Club regattas

Clubs create races, publish rules, approve boat entries, run live maps with handicap standings, then review recordings.

For sailors

Install the app, set your vessel name, and use the tools when you need them.

1

Download

Get SafeSail on Android (APK) or try iOS via TestFlight from the home page.

2

Everyday safety

Use Map Navigate, Anchor Alarm, Emergency coordinates, Wind & Waves, and Captain’s Log.

3

Community AIS & marks

Turn on Community AIS to share live position (opt-in). Add hazards, buoys or depths on the map in the app or on the public Community map — report false marks; they are removed after 3 reports.

4

Join a regatta

After the club approves your boat, open Regatta in the app, set the same boat name as on the entry form, enter the join code, accept background location, and sail. Leave the race to stop sharing.

Tip

Use the same boat name in the app as on your web entry form so your approved handicap (TCC) is applied automatically.

For sailing clubs

Clubs get a login to organize races without paying for a separate race system.

1

Get a club account

Register your club online, verify the email we send, then sign in. Accounts are active after verification — platform admins can close an account if needed.

2

Create a regatta

Name the event, write description and rules, set venue/date, and place Start / marks / Finish on the map.

3

Share the public page

Boats apply online with contact details, crew, handicap, and photos. You approve or reject each entry.

4

Race day

Start the race (gun time). Sailors track live in the app. Watch the live map and standings (time-on-time TCC). Afterward, open Recording to see paths and speeds.

Club tools

  • Public regatta page + entry form
  • Approve boats & handicaps
  • Course editor on the map
  • Live race map & standings
  • Full track recording per boat

Register club Club login

Regatta flow (end to end)

1. Publish

Club creates the race and opens registration. Sailors open /regatta?code=….

2. Enter

Skipper submits boat, crew, TCC, and photos. Status stays pending until the club approves.

3. Join in app

With the join code, the app starts live tracking (notification while racing). Community AIS stays separate.

4. Score & review

Marks are detected on the server. Standings use corrected time = elapsed × TCC. Tracks stay for replay.

Location & privacy (short)

Community AIS — shares only while you enable it on the map.

Regatta — after you join and accept the disclosure, position/speed can be sent in the background until you leave the race.
